A few exciting things...

So we have our first egg from The Kids!! Our chicken caretaker Michael Bauman found it for us last night. It is brown so that means it was the yellow hen that laid it. Can't wait to see if the red hen lays any bluish green ones!! Here's a pic:

Also, here's a sneak peak at what the kitchen renovations are looking like now that I'm done with the tile... they'll be more pics when I'm completely done!

SNOW!!

So it snowed here last Friday morning... last time it snowed more than 3 inches in San Angelo was in 2000. I heard that on the radio, so that's the only reason I know that, given the fact that I did not live here in San Angelo in 2000. :) Enjoy the pictures!

Kitchen Renovations

This post is for Ali, since she says my blog is boring and I need to update it. Here's pics of the old kitchen mid-way between the renovation. I expect to finish it this weekend and get some more pics up afterward. Stay tuned.

Dad's New Kayak Trailer

Dad asked us to modify his old camping trailer to accomodate kayaks so they could tow our kayaks on their trip to Florida. Chris and I spent about 12 hours or so cutting, grinding, welding and sweating. In the end it turned out pretty nice and Dad was happy with the outcome (I don't think he was lying). It needs one solid coat of black paint to unify the old red paint with the new metal and help cover up all of our mess-ups (mostly mine!). Here's the best part: we needed to take Dad's trailer back to Houston and Justin's welding trailer back to New Braunfels - all in the same weekend. The solution - put Dad's trailer in the back of the truck and haul Justin's trailer on the hitch! Needless to say we got quite a few strange looks going down the highway! Here's some pics: (Disclaimer: there may be a few pics of Chris' butt in this slideshow... I got carried away ;))

Garner State Park

This weekend Chris and I wanted to get away for a little bit. We ended up getting a spot at Garner State Park on the Frio River. We drove into Uvalde on Friday night and spread the economic impact around by visiting the hoppin movie theater in town. We saw the movie "Year 1" with Jack Black... it was pretty funny. On Saturday we just relaxed and sat in the river to keep cool in the 100 degree heat! On Sunday we got up and did a little hiking before it got too hot. We "trailblazed" in the beginning (I know it's bad) but we got some awesome video footage of a baby fawn that we found hidden in a crook of a cedar tree. I'll post the video tomorrow after I figure out how to edit it. Here are a few pics of the weekend. One pic is of a weird wasp-like insect that I'm trying to look up and ID. If I find out what it is I will post some information on it. The one pic where I am laying in the river is my favorite... really wishing I was still doing that right now!

We have Fry!

Ok for those who don't know what the heck "fry" is... I just found out the other day too... it's BABY FISH! We're now parents again after we discovered about 15 tiny, tiny fish in our aquarium. Apparently our Dalmation Fish "Spot" can asexually reproduce?? After looking up some stuff online, I've found out the answer is NO. The Dalmation fish is a live bearer and only has to mate once in their lifetime and then can reproduce for the rest of their life on the saved sperm inside their bodies. WOW. It also says they may also eat their own fry. We'll see how many we actually have left in a couple of days. I'll try and get a picture when they're big enough to see in the photo!

The Kids

Here's some pics of our new chickens... otherwise known as "The Kids". The dark one will lay blue and green colored eggs and the other will lay regular old brown ones. I'm excited to have fresh eggs one day! Right now they are living in a pet carrier at our house in San Angelo because our babysitter (Justin) at the house in New Braunfels went to work in Kansas City on the new Schlitterbahn Waterpark for a few weeks. When they get a little bit bigger they will be able to live out in their chicken coop all alone...

Bathroom Renovations

So first things first... I've got to show everybody what kind of conditions I've been living in. We decided one day randomly that we were ready to tear apart the downstairs bathroom and redo it... one thing led to another and before I knew it we had 2 torn up bathrooms! Here's some pics of them torn up... we're making progress on the downstairs one and I'll have pics up by the end of the week on that finished product.

Let the blogging commence!

So I've decided to start blogging again... my Quickbooks is down (I don't want to pay bills anyways)and I'm procrastinating from doing all of the other things I need to do. But I figure there's some family and friends out there who I can keep updated with what's going on in our lives here in West Texas by posting some stuff on here... so here we go!
